Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must meet the following requirements:

  1. Citizenship and Residency:
    • Be a permanent resident of Japan, Mainland China, or Hong Kong SAR.
    • Have completed the majority of their formal education in their country of residence.
  2. Course Enrolment:
    • Must apply for a full-time graduate program offered by St. Antony’s College.
    • Exclusions: MBA, MSc in Financial Economics (MFE), Master of Public Policy (MPP), and part-time courses.
  3. Academic Excellence:
    • Exhibit exceptional academic achievement.
  4. Return Commitment:
    • Intend to return to their home country after completing their degree.
  5. Career Goals:
    • Preference for candidates planning careers in government, business, academia, or a recognised profession.
  6. English Language Requirements:
    • Meet the University of Oxford’s English language proficiency standards.

Application Process

Step 1:
Submit an application for graduate study to the University of Oxford by the January deadline (specific to your chosen course).

Step 2:
Secure a place in your selected program by April 11, 2025.

Step 3:
Complete the Swire Scholarship application form, which is available online:

  • Japanese and Chinese applicants: Use the Swire application form provided by St. Antony’s College.
  • Hong Kong applicants: Apply through the Swire website.

Step 4:
Submit the Swire Scholarship application form by 5 PM (UK time) on March 4, 2025.

Additional Note:
While not compulsory, applicants are encouraged to select St. Antony’s College as their preferred choice in the ‘College choice’ section of the graduate application form.

Selection and Notification

  • All nominations will be reviewed by the Swire selection committee and the Swire Charitable Trust.
  • Successful candidates will be notified by the end of July 2025.
  • If you have not received any communication by then, your application has not been successful.

Key Exclusions

  • Cannot hold another scholarship concurrently with the Swire Scholarship.
  • Applicants for part-time courses, MBA, MSc in Financial Economics, and MPP are not eligible.
